About Rebecca
Rebecca Stanton grew up on the family farm near Jordan, Montana, and has been a get-stuff-done-er ever since.
After getting a job in town at age 12, she worked and attended high school, while also participating in almost every sport, club, and competition available.
Stanton earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Montana State University, and now works there as well. In her work of marketing, events, and business management, she consistently updates processes and systems to be more effective, believing there is always space for improvement. She is a creative problem solver and an advocate when she sees anything unjust. In addition to being a Women’s March organizer, Stanton served as the chair of New Leaders Council Montana for three years, preparing the next generation of leaders, business owners, and public servants for success.
Stanton is practical, effective, smart, and innovative. Her ability to adapt and her big picture vision have enriched the lives of everyone around her.
And now she is running for the Montana House of Representatives to get stuff done for YOU and your fellow Montanans.
A Budget for All Montanans
Invest in people. Our state budget should be a tool for investing in our communities and addressing critical needs of average Montanans and their families. This means directing public funds toward things that make a tangible difference in people's lives—like fully funding public schools and supporting mental health and health services.
Education: Investing in Our Future
Schools are the heart of Montana communities, especially our rural communities. If we don’t adequately found our public education system, those communities are at risk of drying up. In addition, every child in Montana deserves a high-quality education, and that cannot be accomplished if we don’t address the lack of funding in our public education system. The Montana teacher shortage isn’t because we aren’t certifying enough teachers. It is because we are not ensuring that our schools have the resources they need to serve their communities, including not providing a living wage for teachers and school staff.
Commitment to Stronger Democracy
A commitment to stronger democracy centers on protecting the right to vote, ensuring government integrity, and upholding the Montana constitution.
Rebecca will defend the constitutional right to vote by opposing measures that restrict access to the ballot box. This includes advocating for expanded voter registration options, maintaining access to absentee voting, and ensuring that election administration is fair, secure, and accessible to all Montanans, including our rural communities and tribal nations.
A healthy government is one that is free of corruption, works to support its’ citizens, and follows the Montana Constitution . Ethics reforms are needed to prevent conflicts of interest, reduce the influence of corporate money in Montana politics, and keep the government accountable to the public. An integral piece of Montana government is the Montana Constitution which should be upheld and defended against any attempts to weaken its constitutional guarantees.
Healthcare
No Montanan should have to choose between medicine and food, and every Montanan should have access to quality, affordable healthcare (including mental healthcare). Adequate funding is needed to ensure that all Montanans can afford and have access to essential care.
